It's All for Love

God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them!

Jesus is a Zebra, or Why You Should Read the Gospels Yourself

Have you met Jesus?  If not, you may have totally the wrong idea about who he is.

Let's say Jesus is a zebra.  He's wild, one-of-a-kind, spectacular, untamable.

But not everybody will tell you that.  The Republicans have one kind of Jesus, the Presbyterians have another kind, the preacher on the corner has a third.  Everybody has their own pet Jesus.

This is like some people trotting around on their Clydesdales or their Shetland ponies or their plain old donkeys and claiming those are Jesus.  That's right; some people make it seem like Jesus is an ass.

All these have some things in common with the real Jesus.  But none of them is actually the real Jesus.

And so I think you owe it to yourself (and the zebra) to meet the real Jesus.  If you still don't like him after that, well, at least you know what you're missing out on.  And you can tell the ass-supporters where they've gone wrong.

Just don't let anyone else try to pass off their donkey as the real zebra.  Not when it's so easy to know better.

That's a Pretty Firm Commitment

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying:
"I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness."

God Is?

"God is love" (1 John 4:16), and that's what this blog is about.

But of course, the whole premise that God is love begins with the premise that God IS.  He has to exist in order to be anything.

I spent a lot of time in college wrestling with this idea, and really it’s a topic for another whole blog.  So I’ll just give you a few resources that have been helpful to me.  My two favorite books on the topic are by former atheists who share their journeys from unbelief to belief.
